DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF HYBRID COMPOSITE (BIM-14)
A composite hybrid structure is made mainly of composite material (which are demanded strength properties to major external loads and the need to achieve a certain geometry). In such structures are inserted special materials (smart materials, such as shape memory alloys, sensors of different type, metallic materials with special properties of ductility, polymer coatings with high damping etc.) in form of filaments, coatings or layers, with the purpose to increase certain properties of the composite structure, such as damage tolerance, or to create new properties not present in the main composite structure (morphing, sensing etc.).
CETMA has developed a methodology for the design and construction of such structures, validated by demonstrators, for development of hybrid composite structures with high damping properties, high damage tolerance and morphing properties and is also able to define the certification process to follow.
CETMA is then able to develop advanced hybrid composite structures in different industries.
