Call | HORIZON-CL4-2022-RESILIENCE-01

Project duration | January 2023 – December 2026

Sustainability | Materials | Buildings | Energy

Objective | The Exploit4InnoMat OITB (or Ecosystem) aspires to provide a sustainable solution across Europe for the design, upscaling and validation of new material concepts for the building envelope that will facilitate toward the achievement of the EC target for nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB).

The project will provide services across the supply chain of materials, through installation, validation and assessment scenarios for the end of life. The core of the Exploit4InnoMat is the 8 Pilot Lines, situated in 7 EU countries, able to process different type of advance and/or nano-enabled multifunctional materials, including sorting and processing of construction and demolition wastes (CDW) to be used as secondary raw materials. Exploit4InnoMat OITB will make available a high-end Open Innovation Testbed network for building envelopes including roofs and facades, enabling the replication of prototypes in different buildings taking into consideration the trade-offs between the three sustainability pillars, thus, Environment, Social, Governance, the life cycle stages as well as their impacts.

End-user market needs for low-cost, flexible, on demand material-based solutions which will be assessed through an extensive partnership knowledge on materials’ characterization and modelling, monitoring and process control, environmental and assessment, regulatory and standardization, social acceptance, and innovation management, thus achieving nZEB solutions. In  order  to  accomplish this  target,  a  wide  range  of  expertise  has  been  brought  to  the  OITB  covering  fields,  such as Open  Innovation  Testbeds  for  nano  enabled  cement,  non-cement  premixes  and  ceramics,  advanced  coatings  and glazing solutions loaded with aerogel, fibers, PCMs and other nanomaterials providing multifunctional properties; pilot lines for nanodispersion, 3D printing and robotic spraying, as well as a network of four real scale living laboratories for nZEB technologies  evaluation,  will  facilitate  a  realization  tool  for  developing  close  to  market  technological  solutions.

CETMA’s role | CETMA is responsible for Pilot Line 8 related to Cement-free (alkali activated) materials and components (precasted solutions) with recycled or natural aggregates. During the project will collaborate with the other partners to develop Cement-free construction materials and components with CDW (construction and Demolition Waste) aggregates to perform LCA/LCC analysis on novel materials that will be studied. CETMA will also perform some characterization test on the materials and components that will be developed bringing also their skills and knowledge in the OITB supporting start-up and SME that want to develop or test innovative solution in the field of sustainable construction material.
